INDIAN COAST GUARD SAFELY EMABRKED 14 FISHERMENRESCUED FROM SALOMON ISLAND

Thiruvananthapuram: On 01 Jan 2023,Coast Guard Station Vizhinjam received information from Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Mumbai) regarding 14 Indian fishermen crew of Indian Fishing Boat ‘Chrisha Mol’ rescued by OSV ‘Grampian Endurance’ from Salomon Island on 27 Dec 22. The Indian Fishing Boat sailed out from Thegapattnam fishing harbor on 27 Nov 22. Post reaching to their fishing area the boat experienced engine breakdown. Indian Fishermen with help of Srilankan fishing boat towed their boat to the nearby land and anchored. But due to inclement weather, fishermen were not able to sustain in the boat and they took their dinghy and reached Ile Anglaise, in Salomon island (British Indian Ocean Territory 5°S of Equator).

Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) Grampian Endurance from Salomon island sighted the crew and embarked them onboard. Further assistance was provided by Indian Coast Guard Station Vizhinjam. The ship OSV Grampian Endurance passed ETA to Indian coast about 0700 hrs on 02 Jan 22. Indian Coast Guard deployed Indian Coast Guard Ship C-441 to take over and embark on all 14 fishermen. ICG ship met OSV Grampian 15nm away from Kolachel and taken all fishermen onboard safely. Post entering Vizhinjam harbour all 14 fishermen taken to Medical Room at Coast Guard Station Vizhinjam. All fishermen in healthy state handed over to the Coastal police Vizhinjam for further actions
